When I got nostalgic and rewatched Genesis Aquarion, I really thought Apollo was the reincarnation of Apollonius. But halfway through the anime I looked in the "fandom pages" with the character data. And just. WHAT THE HELL IS HE THE REINCARNATION OF A DOG. This is something I didn't expect (sorry, I haven't watched Aquarion Evol yet and I'm still having a hard time watching it after the first season)
Sorry, I'm here with my headcanons :"D
I'm still amused by the Apollo theme as a reincarnation of Apollonius. Because it all looks ridiculous. The once dangerous Angel of Death who terrifies people and collects their souls for the Tree of Life, who messes with humans, is reborn as a homeless kid who eats dry ramen and rats. Additionally, he behaves like a wild animal and bites people's legs. And let's see, if Toma takes Apollo back to Atlandia (it doesn't matter by what means, maybe the Abilities are activated and memory is partially returned), Apollo will sniff and bite absolutely everyone.
They'll all need a rabies vaccination anyway.
Heheheheh they fuckin got you - the show wrapped you around their little wings just like the rest of us! XD i was also super surprised by the twist but honestly, just looking at how Apollo acts, it Does make some sense that he's actually a doggo soul lolol
(Aquarion EVOL is so hard to get through, i feel you - the main characters are empty wafers of nothingness, dont watch the show for them. watch it for the side characters who are awesome and shouldve been the main focus of EVOL)
Absolutely NEVER apologize for headcanons, they're delightful and fantastic!
God imagine if toma did take apollo back and then tried to like, class him up and make him all fancy and badass again, and then every time he looks away for even a second apollo has ripped off the stifling fancy clothes and is chewing on the table legs lmao Rabies vaccine FOR SURE! XD

Minor Spoilers for aquarion evol + pride
oh...Oh my god do you guys remember that one anime called Aquarion Evol (I think that's the correct name) and the whole philosophy of the show was "ya cant separate love, love is love." And it was the typical, girl x guy
But I remember this one point in the show where things get super serious from another planet and there was a prophecy of a girl saving the rest of the aliens on the planet but they were actually all men cause of a virus that turns girls into guys except for prophecy girl?
So I remember this sub relationship between two sub characters of the two main characters and they were a girl and a guy and it was really making it out to believe for both of them get together. But the girl somehow ends up on the alien man planet and the audience knows that shes gonna get turned into a guy oh no! What about her relationship with the dude?!
So she is now turned into a guy without his memories of being a girl and having friends and fighting evil, but the guy whose supposed to end up with 'her' travels to planet with main protags to save prophecy girl and defeat evil FINDs the guy that was once the girl he was supposed to end up with and is shocked
But get this, the guy doesn't leave his potential girlfriend turned guy and say "ew I'll only date you if your a girl, gtfo I'm not into dudes" NO. HE LITERALLY TRIES TO GET THEM TO REMEMBER THEM AND HE DOES, but the girl turned guy is like "I'm not a girl anymore, theres no one who will love me" and get this, THE GUY TAKES THE HANDS OF THE GIRL TURNED GUY AND TELLS HIM, "I DONT XARE THAT YOURE A DUDE, ILL STILL LOVE YOU!!" AND ITS THE ONE MORE PROMINENT SCENE THAT I CAN REMEMBER SO WELL OUT OF THE WHOLE SHOW and look, he ends up being 'cured' of the alien disease and he turns back into a girl BUT JUST THE FACT THAT HE'S WILLING TO DATE HIM BECAUSE HE DIDN'T CARE IF HE WAS A GUY OR A GIRL AND MY HEART, MY POOR POOR HEART GODDAMNIT I LOVED THAT SHOW SO MUCH AS A KID AND I DIDN'T WATCH THE PREVIOUS SERIES OF AQUARION, BUT EVOL JUST GETS ME RIGHT IN THE FEELS BECAUSE THE MESSAGE IS "LOVE IS LOVE, YOU CAN'T SEPERATE IT" AND THEY PUT A CANNON BI IN THAT ANIME AJDJDKKDKDKDKSKSKSNDDKSOCJDBEBJSJS

For the rare pairing thing: Mikono and Kagura from Aquarion Evol. It’s. A terrible show and I’m still certain that these two were the only reason why I bothered to finish it. I will, quite possibly, die mad about the way it ended. There was this whole reincarnation thing where Kagura and this other guy Amata were (spoiler:) a case of the soul splitting into twins, so both were in love with her. The series set her up with the “good” twin at the end, but she only ever seemed to be experiencing character growth around Kagura. Also, Amata seemed to be attracted to every girl in the show, whereas Kagura felt one positive emotion around Mikono and decided she was it for him. I’ve found less than a dozen fics for that series and one of them is mine. I think the most recent update for one that I didn’t write was around 2014, on a cliffhanger...
Well just based on what you’ve told me, that seems like a very frustrating ending and I definitely get why you’d be mad about it

ALIIEEEENZZZ!! in anime (A very, very confused rant about a anime and “power relations” tropes between humans and aliens)
So I just finished watching Planet With and it was sort of interesting, it cannot be said that it has the best story, soundtrack or graphic arts (be it animation, character design, backgrounds, etc) but certainly interesting because it got me thinking about how aliens are depicted in anime compared to other media.
Planet With:
If you do not know what anime show I am talking about, Planet With is a science fiction series that is about a alien boy with amnesia and a big cat that eats the eats the boy and then transforms into a neko-mecha
oh yeah and there is also a vegetarian maid.
Fig 1.- The main characters of the anime Planet With
I will try to make this as spoilers-free as possible but in interest of this post I find it sadly inolvidable to talk about the aliens in this anime
By the way, this is your last spoiler warning: 3, 2, 1

The main conflict in Planet With has to do with the evolutionary stage of telepathy, when a species begins to become psychically sensitive there two main evolutionary paths that can be taken by the collective and individuals of the species: evolving for love or evolving for power. Nebula, a collective of various and diverse alien species and races have evolved via the path of love but have seen what has happened to those who chose the evolutionary path for power which results in a “dragon”, Nebula tends to be a little bit jumpy about dragons because once upon a time there was a very big galactic dragon that did the minor naughty sin of GENOCIDE OF AN ENTIRE PLANET.
When the humans start evolving into telepaths, Nebula cannot help but notice that the humans are following the evolutionary path of power and it is from here where the interaction between Nebula and Humanity begins. Typically at this stage the story will present the aliens as something completely negative, since most story that talk about opposing ideals and ideologies display the conflict in a reductive manner, one sad being common sense and the other simply bad, mad, and silly (An example of this would be Thanos plan to solve all of the universes problem in the film Avengers Infinity War). Surprisingly Planet With presents the aliens and their meddling in human affairs with quite some nuanced:
Fig.2.- Examples of the “bizarre taste” of the aliens
1.- The political splintering of a alien polis because of a mutual problem:
Nebula is in essence a pacifist civilization, they believe in diplomacy, collectivism and love (You can see this reflected in their bizzare taste), it makes sense that their “arch enemy” is the dragon, which is a being of pure empowerment of the individual but crazed with his own sense of justice fueled by individualism. Despite all of the positive aspects it has to be said that Nebula has been traumatized by the actions of the Dragon and this results in desperate and extreme conclusions when it comes to a possible new dragon (This coming from the new human telepaths). This results in the sealing faction (being led by a big white dog) which concludes that the humans have to have their evolution sealed (this means trapping the entire human species into a eternal dream state where all of their ambitions and fantasies are satisfied, killing their ambition and wish to grow, connect and evolve), but there are those that believe that being this extreme is aggressive and hypocritical of a civilization that claims to have evolved from love, these are the pacifist faction (who are led by a big blue cat).
2.- The position of each faction of Nebula is clear and honest:
What I love about the political conflict is that it is obvious that the two alien factions are annoyed by their political opponents but they do not use pseudo-over the top-unnecessary-philosophy to justify their position or criticize the other one, in fact the sealing faction is able to convince some humans to help them because of past events that gives them some credibility (the same can be said about the pacifist faction).
Fig.3.- Leaders of the two Nebula factions (Left: pacifist faction; Right: sealing faction)
3.- The problem of a “intervention of a foreign power” is addressed
Of course, the series those conclude that one of the factions is wrong and the other is right and this would be a “black and white” situation but this anime is self aware of the political context of its story. One of the human telepaths (the most powerful of them) has some extreme political ideas about individualism but does make a good criticism about Nebula when he is fighting against the sealing faction: “You are imposing forcefully your values onto us, how is that not a invasion?” This is a fair criticism, since one must ask as a citizen of a nation that decides to get involved in a different countries conflict “Why do we intervene into others problems? Are we justified in doing so? Does our actions reflect what we claim are our good willed intentions?” We can see these questions revealing certain military interventions in our reality being not only problematic but tragic (You may pick any of the United States wars against terror/evil/danger). But in the anime I would personally say that the intervention of Nebula (in the context of the complete story) is not only necessary but is actually beneficial to the human species because, you know: diversity.
One last thing I wish to clarify about the multiple conflicts and interactions between the Nebula factions and the human species is that it is not a battle of opposing ideologies or the nationalistic supremacy of any of the sides, because in the end of the day all of the characters (except for the dragon) want the best for humanity but simply disagree what is actually the best; I will admit, this is a not only a optimistic but a ideal (even utopian) political situacion, it kinda of gives me a weird Star Treky vibe. And I really appreciate that, since this kind of depiction of the political + social relationship between aliens and humans in a anime is actually quite rare. How rare? Well I am glad you ask because I made a list!
I would argue that most relationships between aliens and humans in media is one of power, be it technological, physical, social, spiritual, or the capacity of one market to commodify almost anything. Unless it is a situation where the humans and aliens are sort of equals in terms of power (and even if this is the case
),  typically the relationship will result in one group abusing the other; be it a invading them, eating them, exterminating them, changing them or commodifying the population (be this slavery, food stock or tokenism). This tendencies is related to what aliens usually represent in media: the other, the unknown, the powerful, the grand administrator, the madness, the colonist or the colonized. The list that will be presented below is based on this argument of mine (This list is composed mostly of anime that I have watched, so no this list does not contain all anime that depicts hostile aliens):
Some anime that depicts Hostile alien tropes (Includes Spoilers):

Top 8 Anime Donuts
What is a donut, anyways? Well, it's a delicious circle of greasy goodness. Cake or pastry, glazed or jelly-filled, with coffee or tea, Dunkin' or Krispy Kreme, any flavor under the sun – the varieties are endless. You might even say there’s a donut out there for everyone; that’s why we love them so much. But donuts don’t have to be 3D! Donut love transcends dimensions to include the anime variety as well. And when it comes to anime, sometimes donuts are so powerfully addictive that they actually become plot-relevant – truly the mark of a good anime. In my very unbiased opinion, no anime is complete without at least one (1) scene of sincere donut appreciation. Here are some of my personal faves.
8) Trigun
For a time, Vash the Stampede was one of the most iconic cosplays on the U.S. convention scene. The essential components: long red coat, glasses, spiked wig, and most important of all, his box of donuts. Fans loved Vash for not only his endless compassion, but also his goofy personality, so in their eyes, an early running gag about his love for donuts eventually became essential to his character. Trigun might not be as enduringly popular as some other anime from its era, but Vash the Stampede remains best boy in the world of donut appreciation. Maybe someday he’ll get to enjoy them in peace.
7) 18if
The fourth episode of 18if stars a girl who loooves food. Fed up with the real-life pressure to be thin, she retreats to a candyland-like dream world where she takes the form of a little pixie who can eat as much as she likes without gaining weight. Trespassers in her personal haven get punished with donut-themed attacks: rolling donuts, like a version of Indiana Jones where the boulders are holey and delicious; donut cannibalism of the disgusting health food variety; even a donut wheel of death, complete with chocolate-covered handcuffs. It’s a little scary to imagine a world where donuts’ power to kill extends to more than heart disease or whatever, but maybe it’s not so bad to die by drowning in glaze and sprinkles. Either way, donuts aren’t exactly good for you. Does that matter? No, not really.
6) Nekomonogatari: Black
In the Monogatari series, vampire Shinobu Oshino spends most of her early appearances quietly huddled up in a corner, having been weakened in an encounter with Koyomi Araragi and Meme Oshino. The thing that gets her to talk? The limited edition golden chocolate donut from her favorite bakery chain, Mr. Donut. A season of near-silence broken in Nekomonogatari: Black only by the sweet, sweet temptation of baked goods and a reverence for lovingly crafted pastries that might even surpass her thirst for blood. Shinobu might be centuries old, battle-hardened, and queen of the supernatural, but deep down she loves reasonably-priced donuts just like the rest of us. That's pretty relatable.
5) URAHARA
URAHARA is more or less what you’d get if Hello Kitty barfed cotton candy all over those Lisa Frank trapper keepers you had in grade school. Its aesthetic is all pastel colors and frilly outfits, the squiggly little doodles that live in the margins of a teenage girl’s class notes. Throw in original character designer Mugi Tanaka’s distinct quirks (cat ears and thick eyelashes), and you have what might be the most sugary-sweet anime of 2017. So sweet, in fact, that the alien invaders all just happen to be giant desserts in monster form. The first episode ends with the Scoopers exploding into a literal shower of donuts of all different shapes and sizes and colors. It’s kind of messed up that our three protagonists eat their enemies after defeating them, but in a show this carefree, maybe that doesn’t really matter. After a hard day’s work of developing a new fashion line and protecting the earth, why not reward yourself with the fluffy spoils of battle?
4) Shirobako
Shirobako may not be entirely accurate to real life in its depiction of the anime industry (though it gets fairly close), but there is one thing it gets 100% right: the power of donuts to change lives. In their final year of high school, five girls make a pact over a box of donuts to someday create an anime together. Years later, they’ve all entered the industry (except for Shizuka, because the life of an aspiring voice actress is suffering) and are working on different projects. But despite going their separate ways, they’re always willing to make time to bond over their mutual love of both donuts and anime. That box of donuts is a cute summation of their group dynamic: no donut is precisely the same, but they all come from the same place. Likewise, Aoi, Midori, Misa, Ema, and Shizuka pursue different career paths post-high school while still sharing a common goal. In a way, that box of donuts is what incites the whole show in the first place. "Don-don donuts, let’s go nuts!" indeed.
3) Donyatsu
What’s better than donuts? Donut cats, of course! Donyatsu is the gripping tale of a cat who is also a donut. In post-apocalyptic Tokyo, Donyatsu and his pastry-animal pals live a life on the run from hungry mice. Despite living in an urban wasteland, though, he’s not terribly worried – who has time to think about rodent fascism when you could be playing word games with a giant alien robot? Certainly not Donyatsu or his best friend Bagel, who happens to have a killer Arnold Schwarzenegger impression. When all’s said and done, it’s not worth stressing over the end of the world when you’ve got friends to goof off with. Besides, when your delicious chocolate body regenerates spontaneously, it’s hard to be too concerned about mortality. Maybe we all need to take a page from Donyatsu’s book and learn to live in the now.
2) Aquarion EVOL
Donuts aren’t simply a dessert. They’re a lifestyle. No anime communicates this better than Aquarion EVOL, which creates an entire philosophy around donut holes and their significance in the universe. What is a donut, asks the commander? It is a ring surrounding a hole. But a hole is not emptiness; no, the donut gives that space meaning. Look through its hole, and a donut seems to disappear. Yet the donut never truly vanishes; once consumed, it becomes one with the donut-lover and eventually the earth itself. Clearly, this must be evidence of profound cosmic powers at work. Ergo, a donut holds the secret to all existence. Which gets us to the point of Aquarion (SPOILERS) LOVE BACKWARDS. When all’s said and done, love is the donut that gives meaning to the holes in our hearts. It’s a truly inspiring message from a silly anime about libido-powered robots.
1) Pokémon
Let’s get one thing out of the way. The “jelly donuts” in 4kids’ dub of PokĂ©mon were never jelly donuts, at least by the usual definitions. You can’t just call one by the other, you might say – an onigiri is an onirigi and a jelly donut is a jelly donut. But I raise you this: what is donuthood but an arbitrary category established by the same people who want you to believe Pop-Tarts are not breakfast calzones? Onigiri can be donuts or not donuts. What matters is what you believe they are. Personally, I think our current definition of what constitutes a donut is rather too narrow. Think of the possibilities! Why limit yourself to cake or pastry donuts when you can substitute any number of unusual ingredients to create something fabulously different? That’s why I believe PokĂ©mon’s onigiri belong on a list of the best anime donuts. They’re iconic, and I refuse to have them taken away from me.
Now it's your turn! What's your favorite anime donut?

Aquarion Evol: I FINALLY WATCHED IT
Tumblr media
After marathoning this series for the past week; I finally finished it today.
All I can really say is:
Tumblr media
I enjoyed this show a lot more then I thought I would, there was a lot of times I just had to pause and laugh at how ridiculous this show could get.
It was a fun experience, (I meant to post this WAY earlier but I couldn’t decide what to write and then life happens; sorry for the wait :s )
